So fascinating! (I keep thinking of Ree Drummond and her first memoir, about the years before she got married, and her first year of marriage, and which I found delightful.)
I LOVED that book! I didn’t really know who Ree was until I married my husband and became immersed in this world. :) I devoured her memoir in two days, after we’d been married for about six months. I had never felt so seen. Haha.
Love these glimpses of farm life, Stacy! And — though we don’t live quite as far from school/activities, none of ours are super close, so — I very much relate to all the figuring out of logistics… it’s a lot! Two of ours played baseball this fall but because of their ages they were at different locations 25+ min apart and often had overlapping games so that was a whole thing!
Thanks, Laura! Kids and sports are a whole thing! It reminds me of that guy standing in front of the bulletin board with all the strings, trying to make sense of it all. Haha.
Oh I love this writing format, totally captured the essence of gather.
The logistics of sports and getting everyone to where they need to be is a lot, I can imagine how much more for your distance from town. I'm enjoying the small margin of time between volleyball and basketball right now. One of my favorite gather moments this fall was when we finally all made it home after evening sports to catch the last innings of baseball on the couch.
Once again, I was transported to a friend’s combine, where I would sometimes climb down and chase after baby rabbits 🐇 and he would laugh at my failure to catch them. 🤣 I can see the grain folding into the teeth of the combine, I can see the chaff in the wind, and remember the sharp edges of broken corn stalks. Thank you, Stacy, for your lovely words.
Keep writing! It’s so lovely!
Thanks so much, Liz!
