The Last Parenting Book You’ll Ever Read with Meagan Francis

a live chat about Meagan's new book!

I became a mom in September 2014, past the height of the “mommy” blog era. I actually don’t remember consuming much parenting media during that first year of motherhood. Maybe I did, but much of that first year is a blur.

At a MOPS meeting in the fall of 2015, when I had a one-year-old, my co-coordinator told me about podcasts. I find it funny now that there was a time I didn’t even know what a podcast was. I consider myself tech-savvy, but for some reason, podcasts had not crossed my radar. The Mom Hour podcast launched in March of 2015, so my best guess is that I started listening to their podcast that fall, when I learned what a podcast was. 😂 And that is when I discovered Meagan Francis.

I quickly caught up on The Mom Hour’s growing catalog, and Meagan and Sarah Powers became a part of my Tuesday routine. Because they were a season ahead of me in motherhood, it gave me a peek into what was coming, while they also reflected on their earlier years as moms.

In the spring of 2021, Meagan and Sarah announced they were looking to add contributors to their podcast, and I applied. That summer, I was offered one of the spots on the contributor team, and I excitedly accepted. Since then, I’ve been on the podcast a few times, but most of my work for them was writing blog posts, which I loved doing.

When I learned Meagan was writing a book, I knew immediately I wanted to read it. After years of listening to the podcast, I trusted Meagan’s voice and experience to lead me again into an upcoming season. Although I’m still years from my kids leaving the nest, I loved reading her newest book, The Last Parenting Book You’ll Ever Read. It isn’t a how-to parenting book. It feels like sitting down with a friend over coffee, while she shares her honest stories about raising and launching five kids.

Earlier this week, I got to talk with Meagan about her book. We chatted about an early chapter of the book “from arms full to hands free” and how I already feel nostalgic for a stage I haven’t yet fully left. We also talked about chickens.

I highly recommend this book if you’re approaching the empty nest stage, or if you’re like me and like to know what’s next.

Happy launch week, Meagan!

P.S. This was my first (and possibly last?) Substack live. I am super awkward, if you didn’t already know that about me. I haven’t watched the video, and never plan to. 😂
