Friend, in a different way, I *feel* this. But also, I like when you talk about farming, because it's a life and a story I don't know and won't ever live and I love being let in. P.s. I have tried 3 times to get "It wasn't roaring, it was weeping" from the library and they still don't have it! Might just need to go ahead and purchase!

Thanks, Katie. Bring your kids anytime for a full farm experience. 😉 Bummer on the book! I loaned my copy out already or I would loan you mine!

Side note to Katie and Stacy, you can send in a request to your local library to buy a book! There is usually an online form on their website or if you go, someone should be able to help you. I've done is a few times and I am always first to get the book on hold!

Yes! I've done this a few times! I'm on the library foundation at my local library! But I try not to do it too much. 😆

We are in the part of the world where it rained every day for 8 days. We are slowly turning yellow from lack of sunshine and oxygen. I speak for the fields and foe myself. Of course you can talk about farming. We don't farm for our livelihood but my brother does. This will be his first year taking on the family farm. It's hard to watch it be like this. O well, today the sun shines. We all have food a plenty. Clothes, and houses that do keep the rain out - mostly. Good luck to you, and hoping praying that some of our rain can move your way

Thanks, Sally. We did catch a little rain yesterday. Not as much as we would like, but better than nothing. I hope the year gets better for your brother!

I needed this today!!! This farm life wears on me in the month of June. Long days with kiddos by myself and little time with my husband. But I tend to measure success based on the vision of what I thought my family life would look like [aka-what my childhood summers looked like in a city with a banker daddy, a stay-at-home momma, a grocery store 5 min away, and countless restaurants around the corner]. Stewardship. I needed that. It will be on the forefront of my mind this week. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for reading, Brittany! I so relate to what I thought my family life would look like, and this isn't it! Haha.

Keep talking about farming, I was so looking forward to your newsletter! Love how the lessons of farming teach so much about many other areas of life.

Your mission statement is so great! Hope rain comes your way.🙏

Thanks, Christina!! We did get a little rain yesterday! We could have used more, but it's better than nothing. Farming does teach us a lot about life. Which is probably why I'm always writing about it. 😉

“It’s frustrating when success and failure are completely out of my hands.” SO GOOD. And needed to read this today. Loved these thoughts-thank you for sharing ❤️

"Stewardship doesn't mention anything about success." I love that.

Did not love St. Elmo's Fire, either. However, I'm a huge John Hughes fan. Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful are my favorites. But yeah, St. Elmo's Fire kind of creeped me out. I wonder what I would think of it if I watched it now.

Yes to 16 Candles and Breakfast Club-- two of my faves from the 80s!

Yes! I've watched both of those, but it's been forever. I'll have to watch them again!

I SO thought of you when I wrote about St. Elmo's Fire, and I'm glad it's not just me! I didn't like any of the characters, and it was just really weird and not at all what I expected. You should watch it again and let me know what you think! :) I have watched Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, but it's been years! I would like to watch them both again. But I haven't watched the other one!

I did not love Splinters, so you're probably making a good choice to save your money with that one. I am however, on an ENDLESS library hold list for Sandwich and I just may need to spring for that one!

This makes me feel better about not buying it. I had only heard good things so far. So maybe I'll wait and see if my library gets it. Sandwich should arrive today! I really hope it's good. Haha.

I love when you write about farming, and I love your pictures too. I also am a big fan of your use of footnotes. :)

I feel like the idea of success or how we measure it keeps coming up for me. I need to ponder this some more…

Thanks, Erin!! I thought I went a little overboard with footnotes this time, but I couldn't help myself. 😉

I love when you talk about farming and maybe I feel the same as Katie because it’s a live I won’t ever live but love to read about it! So don’t feel like you shouldn’t talk about farming 😊

I find it really interesting to read about your agricultural life! I love the mission statements, and I think they can be modified for people in many walks of life!

I also really like the section of this that talks about what you didn’t love. I’m always hesitant to do so because I feel like it can start conflicts I don’t need. But I finished reading a certain very popular children’s series to my kids last month and while I think some of the writing was good, I’m also deeply annoyed about a few aspects of it and wonder if anyone else feels this way😂. (Because really, how could they not?!?!) 🤣 So it might be coming soon to my Substack…

Maybe I'll have to make that a regular section from now on. 😆 I figured I was probably safe with an 80s reference... but other topics might not be so safe. Haha. Oooh.... I'm curious about what books you're talking about!! Can't wait to read it!
