I thoroughly enjoyed that whole newsletter and added a couple books to my TBR :) I met my hubby in college, I just turned 18 and he was still 17 using a fake ID to get into bars (legal drinking age 18 in Alberta). We dated for 9 years before we got married at 27, bought land near the family farm and started a family. I just read Frozen River and highly recommend it! The majority of it was read in the pasture while watching heifers calve.
I loved reading your love story, even though I detest football. 🤪 I am so excited to know about Clinton and Stacy’s show! I heard they were making one but didn’t know it was out. I used to watch What Not to Wear and wished someone would nominate me but also hoped no one would think my clothes were that bad, haha.
I just finished The God of the Woods and loved it!
I love hearing people's love stories!! I would happily read a longer version, haha! I also ended up reading Shari Franke's book! It was so insightful to hear her perspective and to actually get a picture of how Ruby parented. I told my husband all about it and he just looked at me and shook his head and said, "why do you read that kind of stuff?" I'm not sure, but I just find other people's stories so fascinating!!
Thanks so much, Kym! Someday, maybe I’ll share a longer version!! ;) (This is in my future book idea, TBH). The book was so sad! The Hulu series kind of made it seem like the trouble started when they started their YouTube channel and then blew up when that crazy lady came along. But Ruby had issues before then. It’s so sad that their whole family is forever changed by it.
I’m cheering on your first Substack live, and I loved the heart behind listening to the draft. I’m not a big football fan, but I love when our family is together and the Buckeyes are on! I’m from Ohio and have a lot of memories of at-home game watching, so I can get down with the enthusiasm + party snacks! Thanks for the book shout out!
Loved this peek into your story! I met my husband in college (we lived in the same dorm) but we didn't date until after we'd both graduated. I don't love football, but I'll pretend to care about Michigan State football and go to a game now and then, just for the experience of being back on campus and getting to feel nostalgic for my college days. I agree, it's fun to take our kids back to our alma mater and see a place we both love (and where we met!).
I met my late husband in Reno, NV. He had just moved there from Bozeman and was roommates with a mutual friend and we were chatting at a house party... I was waving a chicken wing around as I was talking (durh) and one of the Dobermans that lived at the house snatched that chicken wing right outta my hand! We decided I shouldn't feed the dogs any more bone-in treats and it was too loud there so we cruised around Reno until wee hours talking about everything! 6 months later we were engaged and moving back to Bozeman (I'm from Oregon). 2 years after that, his family ranch came up for lease and we chucked everything and signed that lease and moved to SE Montana. And that was the beginning of 30 amazing, heartbreaking, wonderful years of raising a family and ranching in Montana...
What a cute story, Stacy! Thanks for sharing! My husband and I met as youth leaders; dated 9 months before we walked down the aisle. We celebrated our 35th anniversary this year. I just finished "Greenlights" by Matthew McConaughey. It was surprising, insightful and entertaining. Also - thanks for the rec on WNTW - my daughter and I loved watching this years ago!

I've heard of a few people really liking Frozen River! I'll have to add it to the list!
Is the legal drinking age still 18 in Alberta??
I met my husband tailgating at a college football game too (also at a college I did not attend, several years after graduating)!
Such a beautiful snippet of your love story. Thanks for sharing

Such a sweet story!! I love that he overpaid for the ticket to the game just to spend more time with you!
Thanks, Joy!! Dang scalpers! Haha.

Thanks, Lindsay! Thankfully, the Substack Live will only be for 15-20 minutes, so I can hopefully handle that. ;)

Thanks, Melissa! Were you friends in college? Or just in passing/acquaintances?
Acquaintances with a lot of mutual friends. :)
GO CATS!

And did I mention... GO CATS!
Sorry to hear about your husband, Tam. That's a great story! Sounds like an amazing 30 years together. And yes, GO CATS!

Thanks, Ellen! Congrats on 35 years! I haven't read Greenlights, I'll have to check it out!
