I got so behind on Substack that I am just now reading this and slow clapping you all over again. Loved reading this start to finish and am happy to catch up on your October happenings before the November ones come out :)
Haha me tooooo!! But just yesterday I walked right up to another rattlesnake while cleaning my chicken coop. I about had a heart attack. I fully assumed they were all “gone” for the winter and didn’t expect to see one. Ugh.
Stacy, I loved reading this! I saved it for a quiet moment so I could really soak it up. I don't know what impresses me more -- your storytelling or conquering the rattlesnake. Amazing, friend.
I’m shook. I never would have made it to even the first hoe wack. I would have grabbed my bags and the kids and never looked back. You are a farm goddess. And you ARE a great storyteller.
Oh man I'm an Aussie so snakes here are scary too but I've never had an encounter like this 😬😅 *shudder*. Also that first footnote 👌🏻 very relatable! 🙈
Absolutely terrifying, my own adrenaline spiked while reading. Burning the house down would be a viable option!😅Grateful that garter snakes are the only ones here in Canada!
oh my goodness Stacy...this story had me on the edge of my seat. A snake SLITHERED INTO YOUR HOUSE....ahhhhhh! I also love the casual way you describe repeatedly whacking it until, oh, you know, YOU SEVERED ITS HEAD.
When I say I’ve been *waiting for this*…! “I think I blacked out at this point, my soul leaving my body” lolollll. There is something so biblical about you crushing this snake's head and severing it from its body. Just a whole new way of “living out the gospel” ya know? :)
Oof sorry about the bedtime story. #timezones I had a hard time falling asleep the night this happened. I think I only whacked it a handful of times, but I was using a lot of force.

Thanks, Molly! (Don't hold your breath on the November happenings.) ;)
“Venomous nope rope” is the best thing ever. I have also been waiting to read this story. I’m glad for your sake it is over.

🫣🫣🫣 Wow, you are so brave!!! you’ll always have that story to tell Nora – remember that time...
😆😆haha exactly.

Thanks, Erin!! Nora still talks about the rattlesnake and how I killed it. She was impressed with me. ;)

Can I rename my Substack “The Farm Goddess”? I’ve been looking for a new name. 😆
Also I don't love crime podcasts that involve murder but I really enjoyed scamanda - about a woman who faked cancer for years. So fascinating!
Yes, Scamanda is so good!

Hopefully you don't have any encounters like this! Haha!!
Ugh, snakes...we had a garter snake sneak into our basement a few years ago and that was bad enough, but a RATTLESNAKE...you’re my hero.
Also, the day the calves go down the road is the biggest sigh of relief!
I don't like garter snakes either. Haha!!! But rattlesnakes are a whole other level!!
And yes! That's always a good day!!
Absolutely terrifying, my own adrenaline spiked while reading. Burning the house down would be a viable option!😅Grateful that garter snakes are the only ones here in Canada!
I think I could coexist with garter snakes. Haha! I was a bit anxious for a few days after this.
🤯🤯🤯 my only thought while reading this: Stacy is such a badass.
Only sometimes. ;)
Omg I had a good laugh this morning! Thanks Stacy. I have a few nope-rope stories myself :)
Haha, you're welcome!! ;) Dang nope-ropes! I'm actually glad about the cold and snow... no more snakes for a few months!!

I thought about using a different word than severed, but it felt right. Even worse, the rattle keeps rattling... even though the head is detached.
So scary!! Risen Motherhood is my favorite podcast! Posting about this soon! https://biyaya1.substack.com/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=substack_profile
I love that podcast too!
I was on edge the entire story. You’re so brave! And way to go on that cake!
Thanks, Alyssa!! I'm always my own worst critic about the kids' cakes, but they always love them!

Haha!!! I'll admit, nothing felt holy that day.
Once again, I’m amazed at your bad-assery! Whaaaat?! And you bent the hoe?? So fun to read, though I do regret reading this right before bed!
