“The old saying goes that the grass is greener on the other side. But it’s also true that the grass is greener where you water it.”
Just loved this. 💛💛 I can’t relate to the intense demands of harvest, but I understand a life with a husband who is often gone for long stretches of time and I have felt all these same struggles this summer which made me feel seen. 💛
I often think of you and Jake's schedule, especially when I'm writing about my own life. Although different situations, the heart of it still similar, I think. 💚
This hits home - right now the kids are all home for a winter holiday break from school for 3 weeks and it's LOVELY but also so BUSY. And I often have to remind myself I am the boss of the house during the day, I have to be intentional with how I direct my kiddos attention etc. And it's up to me to make sure I spend time with each kid. Love that you love mowing! My husband loves it too but does not trust me to do it for him and I don't want to but youre on to something there! 😂
I also love mowing the grass and definitely know how that post mowing shower feels! My “lawn” has frequent bare patches, gopher mounds, cactus and weeds so I’m very in need of a shower after. Second, I also despise coiling up anything! Garden hoses, extension cords, ropes etc, they always have a mind of their own.
“It’s me. I’m the ant.” Legit laughed out loud. I grew up on 10 acres and mowing the lawn was the most coveted chore in the house. I LOVED it. This took me back to those summers.
“The grass is greener where you water it.” LOVE this. I have often thought about offering to mow so I can have the time to myself, but our yard is hard to mow because of lots of tree roots and sloping, and my husband doesn’t mow all of it with our riding mower. He also would rather have Astro turf than mow, so I’m thinking I must not be missing much. 😆
I also get on the "surely no one else's kids are acting like THIS" thought train. Why do we do this to ourselves? Also: hoses. Why? They're heavy. They tangle. Also guilty of just leaving it in a clump on the lawn. Ugh.
As always- hits me right on the heart. Beautiful, just so beautiful
Thank you, Tanna. 💛💛

This is stunning Stacy. What beautiful words and images and truth!
Thanks so much! 💛

I sometimes forget I'm in charge too. Haha. Get on that mower, Kym!! He's holding out. 😆
😂😂 the only problem is it's not a ride on... But maybe it would be good exercise then 🙈
This was a lovey, relatable read.

Coiling anything up is just too hard. Haha.
I loved this. “Sometimes, the long days of summer light make me feel seen the least.” Same. Beautiful and relatable metaphor!
Thanks, Alyssa. 💚
So much to resonate with here, all of it.
‘The grass is greener where you water it’, that’s so good. I’ve struggled so many summers with intention vs. reality. Vying for the remote…💯🤯!!
Thanks, Christina. 💚 The dang remote. 😧

Ooh that's a big yard!! My son has started mowing too. But he knows that the yard around the house is mine to mow... and he mows the larger farm yard.

Haha! Give it a try, Erin!! You might like it. Report back. 😆

Yes! It really feels like my kids are the worst sometimes. Hoses really are the worst though. 😆
I want to live in the magical hair braiding house! Lol. But, in all seriousness, once again your writing helps me feel a little more understood.
I picture them braiding each other's hair and singing Kumbaya. 😆 Thanks, Kendra.
Well this is quite the metaphor. Beautiful writing, friend. ❤️
Thanks, Ashlee. 💚
Glad to read your words this morning!
Thanks, Kim!!
I feel like you might speak from experience about the butter dish? 😆 Enjoy the mowing, Sally!! And yes, we do need to share the water for sure!!
