Gosh I love your writing! Prairie fires happen around here too and it is truly amazing how everyone jumps to action. We all have homemade fire fighting rigs ready to go at the start of summer and everyone is on the look out for smoke. Living so rural takes many skills and reliance on each other!
These drips of harvest and farm life are so good to read. They refreshen the perspective of my own world-city living without a water truck in site, and how how that, is part of your world essential. We need these insights and reality checks.
Always enjoy the photos you incorporate into your posts, Stacy. You're not just sharing a story but also sharing your life - thanks for allowing us to tag along! And I think I'm going to take up your recommendation on "Claiming Ground." It sounds like it would be an interesting read!
I love learning more about present-day rural life through your eyes! I read this and my only comparison was the prairie fire in Little House on the Prairie. But it was interesting to think about what you’re describing and what is told there, how much is at stake. I love the description of everyone coming together to fight for what stands to be lost. There’s a whole lot there to unpack! 💗
I thought of Laura Ingalls, too! And how terrifying it would have been back then when they didn’t have the equipment we do. It was scary, but that’s a whole different level.
Claiming Ground looks exactly like my kind of book! Thanks for the rec, and by the way I’m so glad your community was able to put that fire out without too much loss.

Thanks so much, Delta! Fires are so scary! Grateful for everyone that came together last week.

Added claiming ground to my ‘to read’ collection! Looks interesting!
I really liked it!
Oh man how scary a fire would be! Especially since it's also your livelihood going up in flames! So glad you had the help you needed!
Always love your writing and reading about your farm life!
Thank you, Kym!!
I’m so in awe of the creativity it takes to make and serve a meal in a field every single night. In. Awe.
Oh, you're kind. I feel like I'm kind of boring, because I do almost the same meals every summer. Haha.

I think you would love that book! The mountains where she sheep herded is the mountains I grew up on, and then got married! Tell me if you read it!!
